Key Decision Log Briefing Paper
The Key Decision Log (KDL) is one of a suite of evolving tools that make up the Wildland Fire Decisions Support System (WFDSS). It allows Agency Administratros, Fire Management Officers, incident management organizations and other fire leaders to accurately record in near-real time implementation decisions that directly and indirectly affect the management of a wildland fire.

This is a sample form for practice working with the Key Decision Log. As a part of the WFDSS, KDLs become part ofthe internal incident record. The primary users are expected to be incident management organizations and host units who can use them as a basis for final fire narratives, as prompts for close-out discussions and for after action learning.

National Large Fire Management Communication Strategy

This document provides a basic framework for communicating to key audiences about preparation for the coming fire season. It offers key messages and describes pre-season strategic planning for Forests most likely to have “Mega-Fires.” This document takes a national-level, broad view of Forest Service strategies, audiences and messages. It should serve as a template for Regions and National Forests. This and all communication strategies are “living documents” and could potentially change as circumstances change.

Starting and finalizing a CWPP
After a fire district is selected for beginning a CWPP, some information will need to be collected. This document includes examples of base maps that will need to be attached to the final plan.

The Role of a CWPP
The CWPP will be used to identify the areas of concern (AOC) for the fire district or response area. Think large scale. Multiple communities at risk or developments can be in one AOC.

Websites of Interest
This doccument contains websites that support planning.

Why do we need CWPPs? There are many reasons including increased public awareness. CWPPs can result in increased awareness for everyone involved. Collaboration among plan partners is essential to the process.
