[State]: New Mexico[Date]: 05/02/2022[Incident Type]: Hit by TreeAn IHC crew member was struck by a tree during hazard-tree felling operations to support firing operations. The hazard tree got hung up in a live, green tree, which changed the felling approach. When the tree fell, it pivoted on the ground and began falling in an uphill direction. The sawyer decided to run in a similar pattern based off the projection of where the tree would fall, and the tree struck him along his back. The crew member was transported via ambulance to a local hospital, then via rotor wing to a higher care facility, where he was diagnosed with five broken ribs and a pneumothorax, and was released 5/3/22.[This data was provided by the USFS Weekly Summary Report.]#NewMexico#HitbyTree#Handcrews#Firing Operation#Chainsaws#FallingOperation#Firing#HandCrews#IndirectLineConstruction#Medevac
